| This notebook is powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which offers a 20 percent performance boost over its predecessor while using 28 percent less power--so you get the benefit of a powerful dual-core PC plus all the benefits of mobility. The dual-execution core T7200 Core 2 Duo processor provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved gaming and multitasking performance, and it features a 2.0 GHz speed, lightning quick 667 MHz system bus, and massive 4 MB L2 cache. The VGN-AR290G features a 17-inch WXGA widescreen LCD screen offering Sony's XBRITE panel technology, dual 100 GB hard drives (for 200 GB capacity), 2 GB of installed RAM (maximizing capacity), NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics and GDDR3 memory, built in camera and microphone for VOIP video conferencing, multi-format/dual-layer DVD±R/RW drive, multimedia memory card reader, tri-mode wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g), and a wealth of Sony multimedia software. This is Windows Vista capable PC, and it's also Windows Vista Premium ready. |
The drive supports recording both 50 GB and 25 GB BD-R (write once) and BD-RE (rewritable) discs, as well as 4.7 GB DVD+R/+RW/RAM, 8.5GB DVD+R Double/Dual Layer, and CD-R/-RW discs. Simply put, this drive is ready for your most ambitious video and data storage needs.
A single dual layer 50G BD disc can store up to 4 hours of 1080 HD video, making the BWU-100A the perfect solution for keeping High Definition video shot on your HDV camcorder in native HD. Boasting up to 50GB of online, random access storage, BD discs are also ideal for computer backup and data storage applications. And, since the BWU-100A can record DVDs and CDs, all your burning projects can be handled by a single drive.
The drive can be easily installed in your PC via an available Parallel ATA (P-ATA)/EIDE interface. The company says its Blu-ray Disc Rewriter, available in an internal drive configuration of GBW-H10N, provides consumers with higher-quality video and audio rewriting, combined with greater storage capacity enabled by next generation optical disc formats.
The company says this "Super-Multi" capability has been pioneered by them to provide convenience to end users. Compatibility with all recordable disc formats takes the complexity and guesswork out of purchasing blank media.
It is also learnt that GBW-H10N is capable of burning at 4x speed for BD-R, and 2x speed for BD-RE (rewritable disc), and is also capable of writing on DVD-RAM media at 5x speed. With majority of the upcoming Blu-ray burners supporting only 2x recording, LG says the device once again breaks new ground in this rapidly emerging category.
According to R Manikandan, general manager - sales and marketing, IT Division, LG, "With the need for greater quality and higher storage capacity, LG's Blu-Ray Disc Drive will have a significant impact in the disc drive category. As a global leader in the optical storage market, our Blu-ray Disc Rewriter is a further testament of our dedication to providing leading-edge technology."
Blu-ray is the next-generation optical disc format, developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), an alliance of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer, and media manufacturers. It has been developed to enable recording, rewriting, and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing of large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs, and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc, and 50GB on a dual-layer disc.
DMR-E700BD. The new model is the world's first DVD recorder that supports single-side, dual-layer Blu-ray Discs (BD) with a maximum capacity of 50 gigabytes. The model can record both digital high-definition (HD) and analog programming.
The DMR-E700BD is capable of recording up to 4.5 hours of digital HD programming or up to 63 hours of analog programming. The new model is equipped with built-in tuners for terrestrial digital broadcasting, Broadcast Satellite (BS), 110-degree Communications Satellite (CS110) and terrestrial analog broadcasting.
Mr. Etsuji Shuda, Director, Home AV Business Unit of Panasonic AVC Networks Company, says, "As digital broadcasting services are expanding, demand for recording and storing HD video is increasing. Our new product responds to such a demand. We believe the upcoming Olympic Summer Games in Athens is one of the factors behind the expanding demands. The new model records superb digital HD video without compromising picture quality."
Supporting DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs, users can choose the most appropriate media for their recording needs. The DMR-E700BD also features the Electronic Program Guide (EPG), allowing users to schedule recording of their favorite programs through easy-to-understand on-screen guides.

In contrast to the conventional DVD-Video media (red laser), the new-generation discs work with a blue laser with the wavelength of 405 nm. It corresponds to blue color on the color spectrum. The maximum capacity of a one-side one-layer blu-ray disc makes 27 GB against 4.7 GB of DVD-ROM. The lens aperture is 0.85. The bitrate including service data is 36 Mbit/s. The disc diameter remains equal to CD and DVD, I.e. 120 mm. The disc is 1.2 mm thick with the protective layer being 0.1 mm. Recording method is phase transition. Groove technology is used to form tracks.
Video format: MPEG2. Audio format: DolbyDigital AC3, MPEG2 Audio etc. High capacity, read speed and processing provided by the standard make possible to lift the data rate up to 36 Mbit/s even on a one-layer one-side disc at 1x read speed! A typical bitrate for DVD-Video for video image makes 3-4 and 8-9 Mbit/s (one and two layers, respectively). In case of satellite television signal recording in HDTV standard it's possible to store approximately 2 hours of high-quality video (1024i). At lower bitrates and without multichannel sound one disc can house 6 or 12 hours in SR and LR modes (their quality correspond to two-layer and one-layer DVD-Video).
